Getting started with reaction roles

Let members pick their own roles with emoji reactions, buttons or a dropdown.

What the module does

With Reaction Roles you make role panels: messages where members take or remove roles themselves. A panel can use Emoji reactions, Buttons or a Dropdown. You can have up to 25 panels.

The panels are built in the dashboard, and the bot posts them. The module has no slash commands.

Make your first panel

  1. 1Open Reaction Roles in the menu and turn the module on with the switch at the top of the page. You can also turn it on from Overview.
  2. 2Under Role panels, click New panel, Template: Verify or Template: Notifications.
  3. 3Pick the Channel the panel should be posted in.
  4. 4Choose the Type and Mode, and write the message under Message.
  5. 5Under Roles, pick a role for each option and give it an emoji or a label. Click Add role for more.
  6. 6Click Save.
  7. 7Click Publish at the top of the page. Only now does the bot post the panels in Discord.
💡 A panel that is missing something is marked Unfinished. Every panel needs a channel, a message and a role for each option. Reactions need an emoji, buttons a label or an emoji, and dropdowns a label.

The panel message

  • Text above the embed (optional): plain text of up to 2000 characters.
  • Embed: turn the box on or off. It has a Title, Description, Color and Footer.
  • Dropdown placeholder: the text shown in the menu before anything is picked. Dropdowns only. By default it says Pick roles.

The message needs either text or an embed with a title or description. The preview next to it shows how the panel will look.

Save and publish

Saving changes nothing in Discord. When you click Publish, the bot updates the panels that are already posted, posts new ones and deletes the ones you removed with Remove panel. If you move a panel to another channel, it gets a new message there.

Next to the button you can see whether everything is Published or whether there are Saved changes are not published.

Permissions and roles

⚠️ The bot needs the Manage Roles permission, and its own role must be above every role the panels hand out. Drag the RimFrost role up in Server Settings → Roles.
  • You cannot use @everyone, roles that belong to a bot or integration, or roles with moderator or admin permissions.
  • Each role can only be used once in the same panel.
  • The server's own emojis work, but not emojis from other servers.
