Temporary channels

Members make a voice channel others can join by joining a hub, and it disappears again when it is empty.

Create a hub

  1. 1Turn on the Temporary channels module under Utilities.
  2. 2Click New hub, adjust it and click Save.
  3. 3Click Publish at the top of the page. Only now does the bot create the voice channel ➕ Create channel in the chosen category, or in a new category, Temporary channels, if you chose none.

When a member joins the hub, the bot creates a new voice channel for them and moves them into it, and others can join them there. The member owns the channel but cannot control it. Only admins can, from the admin panel.

💡 You can have up to 10 hubs, for example one for gaming and one for hanging out, each with its own settings. You may move and rename the hub channel in Discord.

Settings

  • Hub channel name: what members join to make a channel, for example "🎬 Join movie night". Empty gives ➕ Create channel or ➕ Opret kanal in the server's language.
  • Category: where the hub and its channels go. If you pick another one, the bot moves the hub there when you publish.
  • Channel name: {username} becomes the owner’s name and {index} a number, so #{index} · {username} gives "#1 · Houdini".
  • User limit and Audio quality are what new channels start with.
  • Audio quality above 96 kbps needs boosts: 128 kbps at level 1, 256 kbps at level 2 and 384 kbps at level 3. If the server lacks the boosts for your choice, the channels get the highest it allows.
  • Delete an empty channel after: how long an empty channel is kept. Never means it stays until someone deletes it.
  • Hand ownership to the next one when the owner leaves: when on, whoever joined the channel next takes over when the owner leaves. The channel is then named after the new owner, unless an admin has renamed it. When off, the channel collapses as soon as the owner leaves.
  • Who can see, make and join: everyone, only certain roles, or everyone except certain roles.
  • Moderator roles can use the admin panel for channels from the hub. So can everyone with Manage Server.
  • Also make a text channel: a separate text channel next to it. With Only for those in the voice channel, only people in the voice channel can see it.

Saving changes nothing in Discord. When you click Publish, the bot uses the new settings, also on the channels that exist now: permissions, audio quality, text channel and admin panel. They keep their name and user limit, since an admin may have changed them. The same goes for new and removed hubs. If the hub channel is deleted in Discord, the bot makes it again the next time you publish.

Admin panel

Turn on Show an admin panel for each channel and pick a channel, for example your mod log. Every time a temporary channel is made, the bot posts a panel there with the channel, who made it, who owns it now, status and who is in it. The panel updates as people come and go, and is deleted when the channel collapses.

  • Collapse: deletes the channel at once.
  • Lock and Unlock: nobody new can join while it is locked.
  • Limit and Rename: Discord only allows 2 renames per 10 minutes.
  • Visibility: pick the roles and members who may see the channel. Those already in it can still see it. Visible to all makes it visible again.
💡 Only admins can use the buttons, so pick a channel only admins can see.
