Levels: XP, role rewards and leaderboard

Members earn XP by chatting, level up and get roles, a rank card and a spot on the leaderboard.

How XP works

Every time a member sends a message, they get between 15 and 25 XP. This happens at most once a minute per member, so spamming does not help.

  • Going from level n to n+1 costs 5n² + 50n + 100 XP. Level 1 needs 100 XP, and level 5 needs 1,150 XP in total.
  • The highest level is 500.
  • Bots, webhooks and system messages do not earn XP.
  • Only messages that earned XP count towards the message total on the public leaderboard.

Getting started

  1. 1Turn on Levels on Overview in the dashboard. The module is off until you turn it on.
  2. 2Open the Levels page and pick your settings.
  3. 3Click Save at the bottom when you are done.

Level-up message

Under Levelling up, use Where the message goes to choose where the bot posts when someone levels up:

  • In the same channel: where the member just wrote.
  • In a specific channel: pick the channel under Channel.
  • As a DM to the member: a private message.
  • No message: nothing is sent.

Write the text under Message (at most 2000 characters). You can use {user} (mentions the member), {user.name} (the name without a mention), {level} and {server}. The Preview shows how it looks.

Role rewards

Under Role rewards, click Add reward, enter a level at At level and pick a role. You can have up to 50 rewards.

  • Stack previous rewards: members keep every role they have reached.
  • Only the highest reward: the previous role is removed when a new one is given.
  • Remove rewards when XP is removed: takes roles back if a member drops a level after /remove-xp. If you turn it off, the member keeps their roles.
⚠️ RimFrost needs the Manage Roles permission, and the bot's highest role must be above the reward roles in the server's role list. Otherwise the roles cannot be given.
💡 Roles are given when a member levels up, or when you use /give-xp or /remove-xp. If you add a new reward, members already past that level get the role at their next level-up.

XP rate and places without XP

Under XP rate you multiply all XP from messages by x0.25, x0.5, x0.75, x1, x1.5, x2, x2.5 or x3. The default is x1.

Under No XP you control who and where does not earn XP:

  • Roles without XP: members with any of these roles get no XP (up to 50 roles).
  • XP in all channels except: the chosen channels do not earn XP.
  • No XP in any channel except: only the chosen channels earn XP.
💡 Threads follow the channel they belong to. If the channel is on the list, so are its threads.

Rank card

With /rank, members get a picture with their avatar, name, rank, level and an XP bar. You customise it under Rank card, and the Preview shows the card with you on it.

  • Background: Colour, Gradient (two colours) or Image. With Upload image you pick a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF, which is cropped to the card's shape.
  • Darken background (keeps text readable): from 0 to 80%.
  • Accent colour (bar and level) and Heading colour for the text.
  • Font: Poppins, DM Serif, Bebas Neue, Pacifico or Press Start (pixel).
  • Shape of the avatar: Round, Rounded or Square.

Leaderboard

At the bottom of the page you see the Leaderboard with every member who has XP. In Discord, /levels shows the top 10.

With Show the leaderboard publicly under Public leaderboard, the server gets a page anyone can see without logging in. It shows name, avatar, level, XP and message count, 50 at a time with Show more. /levels links to the page, and in the dashboard you open it with Open public page.

💡 The public page only works while Levels is on. If you switch it off, the link just says the leaderboard is not public.
